About The Opportunity

Role Purpose

Deliver high quality transportation solutions for our customers through the effective communication with both customers and suppliers to ensure the customers’ needs are satisfied in relation to quality, cost and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Execution of transportation activities in accordance with all customer service requirements

  • Adherence of operational margins for mode

  • Ensure on-time delivery of cargo in line with customer service requirements

  • Provide pricing for spot quote business as per customer requirements

  • Actively identify opportunities to reduce transport cost and improve margins

  • Utilize problem solving tools and implement corrective actions as appropriate

  • Provide world class customer service, and take ownership for assigned customers

  • Identify savings opportunities through consolidation activities, in accordance with supplier/customer agreements

  • Track loads through to delivery, and provide customer updates, where necessary.

  • Ensure that all data is input accurately into operational systems

  • Complete invoicing to customers as per GKN Freight Services company standards

  • Ensure that all reporting requirements are met in accordance with company standards

  • Adherence to standard procedures (control manual) and work instructions

  • Maximization of load fill

  • Knowledge of hazardous material transport requirements

Qualification and Skills

Formal Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or equivalent (USA)

  • 5 GCSE A-C or equivalent (UK)


  • Degree in logistics, supply chain or associated field

Specific Functional Competences, Knowledge and Skills Required


  • Experience in Ocean Freight operations within a freight forwarding company or demonstrates the ability to learn

  • Experience of Ocean freight trade-lanes and markets (Americas/APAC/Europe) or demonstrates the ability to learn

  • Operational experience of Ocean Freight planning processes or simular planning aplication

  • Good knowledge of Marine Transport regulations or ability to learn

  • Good inter-personal skills (written and verbal)

  • Ability to demonstrate analytical and logical thinking

  • Good analytical and numerical skills


  • Previous automotive logistics experience

  • Basic knowledge of USA domestic and NAFTA Road Transport

Language Skills

  • English language fluency

  • Other language advantageous.
