About The Opportunity

What You’ll Do

The Information Technology Co-Op will directly assist the IT Department with a wide range of projects related to information systems, software, networking, helpdesk support, data management, etc. This co-op position is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the co-op will learn how to take skills she or he may have acquired in school related to his or her particular areas of interest, and apply them in a professional setting. He or she will gain a better understanding of the role that Information Technology has within an organization and be better prepared to work in the arena of business.

Description of Duties:(Provide the key responsibilities expected for the role)

  • Monitor, control and operate computer hardware and software in support of local GKN computer operations.

  • Provide assistance where required to manufacturing and business personnel to ensure the availability of all business, manufacturing and engineering hardware and software.

  • Evaluate and resolve PC hardware and software problems and network printers to provide maximum availability to end users.

  • Assist in the upgrading of all application and system software releases (upgrades) for all mini-computers, workstations and PC's at GKN. Manage, control and monitor security access to all applications and in-house programming changes to production systems.

  • Undertake and complete special operations related improvement projects.

  • Provide assistance to end-users on resolving hardware and software related problems and assist the program development staff by resolving day-to-day application system problems wherever possible and /or coordinating with the development staff to ensure a timely resolution of the problems.

  • Web based software development where applicable.

  • Provide recommendations on practical application of technology

  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications/Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university that has a Cooperative learning track required (Major: Information Technology, MIS, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field)

  • Ability to work on a team required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required

  • Strong initiative required

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) required

  • US person as defined by ITAR regulations.
