Rivers Agile Quality Assurance Engineer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Rivers Agile specializes in building software products for other small- to medium-sized businesses. As a “product company for hire,” we form into small teams tasked with the full lifecycle development of a software product. Our engineers are the heart of that. We seek engineers who are lifelong learners, passionate about their craft, and defined by their unique personality, experience, and style. One-trick ponies need not apply.

Only candidates local to the greater Pittsburgh area will be considered. Onsite work is temporarily required for this project.

Position overview

You will join a team of QA Engineers with technical skills as deep as they are diverse. For your first project, you will be contributing to a hardware and software integrated virtual reality product currently in its research and development phase.

Skills required

  • Experience testing high tech integrated hardware and software solutions with understanding of how they are built and configured for testing purposes

  • Proficient at using non-traditional means for deriving requirements. This includes leading meetings with the rest of the team to collect the necessary inputs to the testing process, informing the techniques, protocols, and test scenarios to be written

  • Ability and willingness to function as a central collection point for bugs discovered in the field

  • Strong process orientation, knowledge of software development and quality assurance methodologies, and the ability to apply them pragmatically

  • Ability to influence testing and quality improvements across the team by mentoring and evangelizing

  • Expert technical troubleshooting and sleuthing skills

  • Ability to write test plans and bug reports that are clear and actionable

  • Intermediate coding skills, ability to understand code, and familiarity with mercurial-based (or similar) source control commits, pushes, and management

Other qualifications and pluses

  • Flexible mindset to deal with a fast paced environment with frequent changes to process and expectations

  • Ability to inspire and support change through quality advocacy using a positive and constructive demeanor

  • Experience working with R&D teams, and understanding how your testing approach may change as a result

  • Minimum 5 years of software testing experience with a proven ability to improve the impact of Quality Assurance within an organization

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience

  • An extremely detail-oriented approach with respect to documentation and communication

  • Understanding of Agile software development processes, best practices, and the bug life cycle

  • Experience with test automation is a plus

  • Effectively communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences and stakeholders

  • Being comfortable in command line environments is a plus

  • Experience testing android-based devices and configuring them via ADB
