Town of Pine Hill Water Treatment Plant Operator in Pine Hill, Alabama

  • Will operate a series of controls and valves to control the rate of flow of water to be treated coming into water plant. Raw water is pumped from Alabama River.
  • Operate chemical feed metering pumps to add correct amount of chemicals to treat river water to ADEM (Alabama Department of Environmental Management) specifications.
  • Change out chemical containers as needed and help maintain inventory.
  • Perform water quality tests at regular intervals to maintain water quality standards. Monitor gauges for changes, adjust incoming water rate and chemical feed rates as needed to maintain water quality.
  • Record test values on proper forms. Be able to use computer to record proper data.
  • Perform plant cleaning duties such as sweep, mop, dust and otherwise keep a clean and neat control lab room and pipe gallery. Perform light maintenance such as check oil levels, lubricate equipment inside plant as needed.
  • Perform outside work such as cutting grass and weedeating around the plant and keeping grounds neat. Maintain the equipment on a regular basis.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age andhave a high school diploma or equivalent; college a plus.
  • Valid Alabama Driver's License and good driving record.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination anddrug/alcohol test. Random drug/alcohol test will be required if hired. A background check will also be conducted.
  • This is shift work with up to 7 days/night a week after certification. While in training, employee will work at least 40 hours per week, as determined by Chief Operator. Work performance will be evaluated weekly. Termination can result from poor work performance or based on reports submitted by the Chief Operator. Employee will work with supervision until certified.
  • 12-month probationary period, during which time employee shall attend and complete classes and pass a Grade IV Water Certification Test. Some classes will be online and others employee must travel to class. A great deal of reading and studying on employee's own will be needed, but study will be required while at work and progress tests will be given. Failure to complete these requirements and pass the Grade IV Water Certification Test within 12 months of hire date shall result in dismissal. Personal cell phone use will be limited.
  • Must have good math and writing skills, communication skills and be able to follow directions. Computer knowledge required. Reports are done online.
  • Employee will do the housekeeping and other maintenance inside the plant. Will cut the grass, weedeat and other yardwork as needed to keep the plant clean inside and out. Employee will be required to do equipment maintenance work inside and outside the plant.

OTHER HELPFUL KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

  • Any Water Treatment Plant experience and/or Water Certifications will be helpful.
  • Any retired Water IV Operators or other water systems Grade IV Operators interested in working at least part-time will be given high priority.

Benefits package will include: Health and Dental Insurance, mandatory contributions to Retirements Systems of Alabama, paid sick leave and holidays. Employee may be required to work on holidays. Vacation pay is earned after one year of employment. Salary will be discussed at interview.
