Job Summary

The GKN Fokker Elmo Research & Technology (R&T) department is looking for an ambitious Research Engineer who wants to apply his/her theoretical background to the development of future Electrical (Wiring) Interconnection Systems for sustainable aircraft. Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems (EWIS) already became more prevalent as part of the More Electric Aircraft, however today the journey to full Electric and Hybrid-Electric aircraft adds a new chapter to its technology significance. This role will include disruptive technologies for the transmission of low voltage data signals.

Job Responsibilities

A full-time position in the Research & Technology (R&T) department of GKN Fokker Elmo, part of GKN Aerospace. You will be part of the team developing EWIS solutions that can be installed in confined spaces and/or with a significantly lower weight. This includes concepts in which electrical conductors are integrated into a structure. This separates electrical and mechanical functions and brings together expertise within GKN Fokker Aerostructures and GKN Fokker Elmo.

Daily activities provide a mix between theoretical & practical aspects. This includes the generation of design concepts, performing trade-offs, defining production methodologies as well as building samples and performing tests to evaluate and verify theoretical assumptions. This requires collaboration with other departments internally as well as with our technology eco-system consisting of universities, knowledge institutes and industrial partners active in the research.

Job Qualifications

  • Master/Bachelor degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field;

  • Knowledge & experience in AAM & aircraft (electrical wiring interconnection) systems is preferred;

  • Knowledge & experience in DoE, efficient testing methods of electrical and/or mechanical products is preferred;

  • Knowledge & experience in EMC & Electrical theory/behavior of low voltage (analog and digital) signals & high voltage signals within EWIS products is preferred;

  • Knowledge of materials and structures (composites) including manufacturing automation (software/hardware) methods and NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) preferred.

Skills:

  • Can think and communicate at multiple levels of abstraction, including conceptual thinking to setup or support lower Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) project(s);

  • Ability to deep dive into functional and technical requirements for EWIS products for Aerospace applications;

  • Be pragmatic and goal-oriented, for example in performing experiments or making samples;

  • Familiar or willing to familiarize with EWIS requirements and being able to translate these into solutions.
