Will you strenghthen GKN as a Industrial Relations Manager?

The Industrial Relations Manager position will lead Industrial Relations for our 2 locations in the Netherlands – Papendrecht and Hoogeveen. In Papendrecht, a multi technology campus has been built, bringing together Aero Structures, Landing Gear and Electrical Wiring Interconnection Systems. Papendrecht will be GKN Aerospace's largest site with a total of 2.500 employees. Hoogeveen has around 1200 employees and has recently opened a Global Technology Centre where €80 million has been invested in Thermoplastics Research to pioneer new lightweight composite materials and processes that enable scalable and cost-effective high-volume production. A dynamic time to get on board! As an Industrial Relations Manager you will lead 3 core items: Providing advice and guidance to management and HR on The Metalelektro CLA; lead the co-ordination of all works council activities; provide employment law advice and training to management and HR in conjunction with our appointed legal advisors and the PMA. You will also develop, plan, and deploy the country-based industrial relations strategy in conjunction with the HR Directors and senior management. From this position you will take the lead in any union or work council negotiations and where appropriate participate in industry level discussions with national unions.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements the industrial relations strategy and ensures that the strategy is aligned with the company’s overall business goals and objectives.

  • Promotes a cooperative business focused partnership with local trade unions ensuring that represented employees are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.

  • Advises HR and management on the CLA and represents management in industrial relations issues. This includes handling and documenting grievances, requests for information, advice and consent and preparing for arbitrations or tribunals.

  • Investigates and resolves problems, such as: discrimination complaints, compliance issues, working conditions, disciplinary actions, and employee and applicant appeals, complaints and grievances.

  • Supports key HR initiatives by advising organization of potential industrial relations issues based on new/proposed programs, policies and initiatives. This includes ensuring local HR managers are up to speed with any local, regional or national legislation changes which would affect the workforce.

  • Manages the relationship with the appointed legal advisors and actively contributes in the PMA.

  • Utilize systems and auditing to investigate and analyse patterns for compliance to policy, and consistent practices.

To be succesfull you will bring:

  • Extensive knowledge of the Metalelektro CLA

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of employment law and the ability to apply that practically

  • Extensive experience of leading and co-ordinating works council activities

  • Extensive experience of working with Trade Unions

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Professional level of the Dutch and English language

  • Great at building relationships with key stakeholders

  • Able to work at all levels within the organisation

  • Excellent negotiation skills
