Aerotek CNC Machinist in Jackson, Michigan

Description:

  • Set up and operate CNC lathes/mills to perform machining operations such as turning, boring, threading, facing etc. on metallic parts of cast iron, stainless steel, brass, bronze, carbon steels, or non-metallic parts of plastic or Teflon.

  • Work according to specifications, tooling instructions and knowledge of machining procedures.

  • Read prints and factory work orders for specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cuts and cutting tools.

  • Position and secure tooling set-up.

  • Insert workpiece into position and secure it by such methods such as mounting between centers, inserting in chuck or clamping to face plate.

  • Select method of holding workpiece which may include making arbor/jaws to complete job at hand.

  • Adjust controls to set cutting speed and feed rate and to position tool in relation to workpiece and run machine.

  • Verify workpiece machined for correct specifications to tolerances as close as .001 with the use of such measuring instruments as micrometer, vernier caliper, depth gauges and other measuring tools.

  • Procure first piece inspection approval.

  • Responsible for keeping machine clean and lubricated and for maintaining a clean and orderly work area.

  • Perform duties in accordance with company safety policies. Report unsafe conditions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read and interpret complex blue prints.

  • Must be competent in the use of calipers, micrometers, verniers, indicators and various other measuring instruments.

  • Must have the equivalent of 1 or more years of experience in set up and operation of CNC mills and/or lathes.

  • Responsible for verification adherence to all applicable quality standards.
