Overview:

As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for supporting a large-scale production facility and its various manufacturing processes and equipment.

The role is multifunctional with knowledge needed in the production of hardware, assembly, equipment integration, inspection, process documentation, machining, fabrication, cleaning, welding, spares, assembly, testing and other various aerospace manufacturing processes.

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment, adaptability, persistence, resourcefulness, engagement with team members, critical thinking skills, detailed attention towards safe and repeatable human spaceflight.

Core responsibilities can include:

  • Meet daily as required with Production and Maintenance teams, to set directions for work in assigned domain.

  • Watch over the various processes to assure mission critical items are ready for deployment to production floor.

  • Be present when non-conforming materials are identified to validate findings and determine non-conformance recovery plans with internal or external suppliers of spare parts.

  • Watch for opportunities to streamline the work being done to make things better, faster, cheaper and work within the team to drive improvements.

  • Monitor electronic data collection processes to maintain data integrity.

  • Design, procure, install, and qualify custom manufacturing equipment, fixtures, assembly aids, hand tools, and identify & develop mistake proofing methods, shipping methods with the goal of ever-improving the primary production metrics of Quality, Cost and Delivery.

  • Interface with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure that shipping hardware and equipment is fabricated and delivered properly, on time, and on budget to plan.

  • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process.

  • Work to mature and stabilize the overall manufacturing process sequencing at each work center along a flow path, and make real-time adjustments as needed to deal with product and process issues as they arise.

  • Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into consistent machining processes, work instructions, machine set-up instructions, hardware inspection instructions, and work orders that direct the machinist's activities in the work centers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace or Automotive Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university

  • Two or more years of engineering experience working in an aerospace or automotive production environment, or similarly highly regulated industries

  • Working knowledge of GD&T and Drawing Interpretation, Jigs/Fixtures/Production Tooling, BOMs, Routings, Work Instructions, Component Inspection, Quality Testing, Configuration Management, Discrepant Material Disposition, Continuous Improvement, Mistake-Proofing

  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills such as MRP, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen due to the nature of the work

Desired skills include:

  • Working knowledge of cutter path determination, chip load calculations, G-Code, M-Code, and CAM-Post conversions and how they are used in CNC machinery

  • Experience in Predictive and Preventative Maintenance programs for factory equipment

  • Experience with metrology and layup tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, pin gauges, thread gauges, test indicators, height gauges, granite plates, 1-2-3 blocks, etc.)

  • Experience with set up and operation of semi-automated and fully automated inspection equipment (CMM"s, optical comparators, profilometers, blue-light scanning, etc)

  • Material Resource Planning systems (SAP, Oracle, JDE, CostPoint, Epicor, Job Boss, etc.)

  • Manufacturing Execution Systems (Solumina, Maximo, CostPointMES, etc)

  • Design systems (CREO, AutoCad, Inventor, Solidworks)

  • Product Lifecycle Management systems (Windchill, Team Center, Enovia, etc.)

  • Knowledge of data manipulation in SQL tools or Python is highly desirable

  • Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100

  • Deep knowledge of metal fabrication and welding techniques

  • Experience with the design, fabrication, and assembly of aerospace and/or space-bound turbine engines
