What you’ll do
Under limited supervision, provides technical and administrative guidance in the area of materials joining in support of company objectives.
Develops, qualifies, writes and obtains customer approval for welding procedures and schedules.
Supervises and assures compliance to customer specifications of all welder and welder operator qualifications. Establishes training guidelines and content.
Reviews planning for completeness and compliance concerning metal joining processes.
Writes and maintains operation manual sections relating to metals joining. Stays abreast of new welding technologies that have possible application.
Maintains sites welding Certification program.
Specifies and recommends welding equipment upgrades and new purchases.
Designs and draws specialized weld tooling and equipment.
Provides Estimating with technical support in Request for Quotation (RFQ) responses.
Runs special weld test programs at customer and/or company request.
May introduce new metal joining techniques, processes and controls into manufacturing.
Assists Quality Control functions in internal and external audits.
Troubleshoots metal joining problems on shop floor and at vendors’ facilities, as applicable.
Writes instructions for customer-required qualification maintenance tests (e.g., PWA quarterly weld tests).
Maybe involved in bid, proposal and contract activity, including plans, presentations to customers and reporting results.
Maintains welder and welding operator certification program.
Develops welder and welding operator training documents.
Maintains a clean work environment (including assigned storage and cleaning duties) in full compliance with company standards, customer and government regulations.
Assists in the development and maintenance of a business culture, which supports the Company's overall business objectives and goals, by providing leadership in issues that involve “cost, quality, process, schedule and people”.
Ensures the company's commitment to maintain a safe workplace and to protect the environment through the establishment and support of Company policy and adherence to various government regulations.
Fully complies with the "GKN Aerospace, Inc. Policy Statement on Contracting with the United States Government" in all areas of responsibility involving direct and indirect contracting with the United States Government. Ensure subordinate staff is aware of the policy and their individual responsibility and accountability for complying with it.
Performs other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Requires a 4 year degree in welding engineering, metallurgy, or material science, or lieu of a degree 5+ years of experience. An advanced degree is desirable.
Requires minimum 3+ years preferably in an aerospace manufacturing environment and/or experience in precision welded components.
1+ years of working knowledge of MIL Standards with aircraft engine manufacturers’ preferred.
U.S. Person per ITAR regulations to comply with export compliance and site SSA requirements
Requires in depth knowledge of at least two of the following three processes: electron beam, resistance, and gas tungsten arc welding.
Additional process knowledge, where applicable, in diffusion bonding, laser processing and brazing, as well as a knowledge of titanium, stainless steel, and nickel alloys is highly desirable. Must be computer proficient.
Knowledge of welding metallurgy.
Experience in directed energy based additive manufacturing technologies desirable.
Experience in statistical weld parameter development methods desirable.
