Job Summary

The Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business advances empirical research that seeks to help various stakeholders working to address social issues by examining the practices of social sector organizations. The Center collaborates with Booth faculty and research partners globally and across sectors, including with nonprofit, for profit, and public sector organizations.

The Center\'s research team seeks a Research Specialist to participate in research project management, data access administration, data collection, research administration and technical assistance in support of faculty social impact research. This role is intended to operate on a research internship model, with the Research Specialist remaining in the role for up to one year before pursuing a research or research administration career, although this can be extended by mutual agreement. The position will be strategically remote, with requests to meet in person on strategic occasions and approximately once per quarter.

Responsibilities

  • Manages project activities supporting ongoing research projects led by the Rustandy Center and Booth faculty.
  • Supports data acquisition in collaboration with University departments (e.g. assist with IRB submissions, Data Use Agreements, data transfers, and data security).
  • Manages access requests and technical documentation for Rustandy Center\'s Data Hub.
  • Manages data collection efforts with Rustandy Center research team, UChicago partners, such as the Inclusive Economy Lab, and external research partners.
  • Writes literature reviews.
  • Contributes to research documentation (e.g. research proposals).
  • Upholds data use agreement parameters and data security protocols, collaborating with University departments when necessary.
  • Conducts and oversees data analysis, generating summary and descri tive statistics for research, internal metrics and project documentation.
  • Maintains effective communication with all team members, other University departments and outside institutions.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:

  • Bachelor\'s degree in economics, public policy, or a closely related field.
  • Master\'s degree.

Technical Skills or Knowledge

  • Experience working with STATA, R and/or Python.
  • Knowledge of survey platforms such as Qualtrics.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
