About The Opportunity

What you’ll do

This role is focused on the provision of legal services to the Driveline Americas businesses, with a primary location based in GKN Driveline’s North American Automotive Headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Close collaboration with the US senior leadership teams, commercial and finance teams is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting, advising upon and negotiating commercial contracts and terms and conditions

  • Providing general legal advice and guidance on environmental, real property, customs, export compliance, employment matters and a range of other matters

  • Providing dispute resolution advice to the functions including strategy and tactics, with a view to providing the best possible outcome for GKN Driveline, ensuring that likely outcomes are understood by business and corporate centre management, managing dispute budgets and assisting in negotiating the settlement, with or without the aid of mediation, where possible

  • Conducting relevant internal investigations as required

  • Supporting the Group’s compliance programme including providing training and implementing compliance policies and procedures

  • Supporting the GKN Driveline legal team as required in relation to corporate and commercial issues, including assisting in the design and implementation of contracting procedures and processes, and risk management programmes, to assist the business in reducing their legal risk

  • Managing material claims and litigation using external counsel effectively to ensure (so far as possible) the most positive business outcomes.

About you

Knowledge, Experience and Functional Requirements:

  • Afirst-class academic and legal background

  • Minimum1 year of relevant experience gained in a law firm or in House

  • Goodnegotiating skills with the ability to identify the main value and risk issues and to resolve them effectively in line with the business case;

  • The ability to provide clear and practical guidance offering innovative ideas and solutions and combining strategic acumen with the attention to detail and expertise that sets minds at rest.

  • The ability to communicate at all levels across a multi-national organisation, to build strong internal and external relationships and to establish oneself as a key member of the legal and commercial teams;

  • Capableof achieving ‘trusted adviser’ status with the senior leadership team

  • Self-starter with a flexible but robust approach focused on execution and delivery.
